The visitor here finds concentrated all the landscape features that give character to the island: the mountain and the plain, the river, the lake and the sea, wild nature and cultivated land. Landscapes of incomparable beauty, villages conserving the traditional Cretan element, but also residential zones of cosmopolitan atmosphere, nightlife, luxurious hotels with high-class services, and the ability of easy access to every place to the west of the island through the highway that links its major cities. Every summer, in Georgioupolis all the locals are devoted to provide services to the visitors: the famous Cretan hospitality finds here its true meaning. This is only one of the many reasons where thousands of visitors worldwide, return here full of nostalgia. Because the first word hospitality means to us, is the word Friendship.
Favoured by Nature, blessed by God, are some of the usual comments when we refer to Apokoronas County, part of which is Georgioupolis. From the imposing tops of the White Mountains, which we gaze from our balconies, spring the rivers that provide water to Western Crete. Georgioupolis stands on the way of one of the richest water tables of the isle of Crete. Due to this fact the area owes the explicit natural environment, the wide diversity and rareness of flora and fauna. Georgioupolis is run through by rivers, these rivers create wetlands amongst its hilltops the only natural lake of Crete is formed, the most southern lake of Europe, Koruna’s lake and along the bay, stretches one of the longest beaches on the island, 6 km long. A great variety of landscapes, suitable for daily walks and tours. Many of these landscapes are protected ecotypes proposed for the European Environmental Network "NATURA 2000".
The 6 km long Georgioupolis beach, which extends to the neighbouring Prefecture of Rethymno, attracts thousands of visitors, both Creek people and foreigners, who enjoy its golden sand. An organized beach with lifeguards, toilets, cleaning services as well as water sport facilities. A beach full of colours and pleasant challenges: in the morning people enjoy the warm Mediterranean sun, in the afternoon lonely couples or companies gaze the colours of the calm sea melting into the horizon. At night youngsters dance in the numerous beach bars while elder people relax in the verandas of the shore's hotels
